Maybe I have some sort of mental illness, but mainly it's because I really believe in the POWER of clearing your space & life of clutter. It amazes me how many bags I can drop off at the thrift store any given week and how great I feel afterwards.
{a little background: About a dozen years ago, I was just about one month away from moving across the country from NY to California to start a new life with my at the time boyfriend, when I got rid of everything. Seriously-everything I couldn't fit into my 1999 Chevy Cavalier- I got rid of. But, a funny thing happened: weeks after I got rid of all that stuff, better stuff literally came flying at me in all directions. Most important being that I gained the almost instant clarity to get out of an unhealthy relationship & I didn't move to California after all. I met my husband within weeks. I asked my boss if I could take my resignation back & not only did she accept my plea to stay, but she also gave me a raise and a promotion.}
Back to TV TUESDAY: this episode of Clean House was extra cool, because this woman here had a major KITSCH collection that was really fun to look at, but the clutter was overwhelming her family. So, she has since opened up a store (which I couldn't find the link for anywhere online).
I really love thrift and yard sale shopping for vintage items, but for my mental health, I can't really keep everything I find-so I'm going to focus on shopping for my Etsy inventory & keeping my home clutter free.
Great idea. I like your thinking. I've been giving away items I thrifted that I didn't even use or paint or makeover so I realize I have to shop with a purpose. No more clutter!
ReplyDeleteHow funny..those were my friends in that episode and I was there :)
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't have a store anymore she sells in an antique market.
I actually sell for her on Etsy as well.
They didn't do a very good job remaking their living room/family room but their basement/garage game room is pretty sweet.
